One of the strongest “Hashiras,” Sound Hashira Uzui Tengen, has already retired from active duty in the main story.

Why did Uzui Tengen retire?
In the “Entertainment District Arc” (Volumes 9 and onward), he battled against the elite demons known as the “Upper Rank Demons.”
To put it simply, the injuries he sustained during that battle were too severe, making future combat difficult, so he retired from active duty.
This decision was confirmed shortly after the battle, or rather, he felt it intuitively.

While detailed aspects of his personal life are not elaborated upon, he reappears in the main story during the “Pillar Training” (Volume 15).
During this time, he was seen imparting rigorous training to the squad members to improve their basic physical fitness.

His three kunoichi wives also contributed to training by making rice balls.
We don’t know how he spends his “normal” days, but like “Rengoku Shinjuro,” who raised Tanjiro, he might become a “nurturing hand,” fostering and educating new Demon Slayer Corps members.
